This has been the year of the flat lay for me. I was making the decision whether I should start offering flat lay photography services when I was contacted by California lingerie brand, Parfait Lingerie, a sophisticated lingerie line found in Nordstrom, Kohls, Lord & Taylor, Belk and David’s Bridal. Their marketing manager that contacted me said she found me through intense Googling and found my portfolio to be the best for fashion and beauty. Guess the SEO from this post helped out! They were in search of a photographer that could take photographs of their lingerie surrounded by props such as cosmetics, flowers, perfume, etc, in typical flat lay fashion plus plain product shots on white for their social media for 40 sets of bras and panties.
The client sent me inspiration photos and examples of how they wanted their photos to look.
The end result for the on-white photos came out amazing no thanks to my amazing retoucher Kristina Sooy. Here are a few examples

The client has already started using some of them and have been averaging between 50-90 likes per photos, which are on par or surpassing some of their more successful posts.
In summary, flat lay photography may not seem to be a daunting task. Many bloggers and brands do their own but if you don’t have the time for it or the eye for good composition and visual balance then it may be worthwhile to look into outsourcing the task; especially to a skilled photographer.
